Last week’s local and European elections saw Conservative victories across the country – and we want to thank all our supporters for the hard work that led to our success.
Thousands of you gave up your free time to hand out leaflets, knock on doors, and explain why people they should vote Conservatives – and, as a result, we enjoyed remarkable success.
In the local elections, we won victories right across the country, from Lancashire to Devon, from Somerset to Derbyshire. We gained eight new councils, some of which we hadn’t held for three decades.
Labour were completely wiped out – they now control not a single county council in England. And we also won important victories against the Liberal Democrats in the South West, gaining Somerset and Devon County Councils and becoming the largest party in Cornwall.
The Conservative candidate, Linda Arkley, also won the North Tyneside mayoral election by nearly 4,500 votes.
In the European elections, our share of the vote rose to 29%, and we won 26 seats in total. Importantly, we topped the polls in Wales (for the first time since 1931) and in every region in England except the North East.
But none of this would have been possible without the efforts of Conservative supporters across the country. We are grateful for all your hard work, and hope that you will continue to support us in the run up to the General Election that this country so desperately needs.
