Annabel Goldie MSP, Scottish Conservative & Unionist Party Leader, has today said the British people deserve to have a strong voice in Europe but not be run by Europe, and deserve extremely high standards from MEPs. On the last day of the European Campaign all Conservative MEP candidates will be signing a pledge to the British people.
Annabel Goldie said:
“All the other parties are delighted expenses have overshadowed the campaign because Conservative MEPs are the most transparent, the hardest working and best value for money according to numerous independent reports.
“The Conservatives are the only main party to say a definite no to the Euro, we want a cut in EU waste, we want Labour to keep their promise and hold a referendum on the Lisbon Treaty. We need people to use their vote to force a general election to restore trust in politics. That’s what this pledge is all about.”
Struan Stevenson, Scottish Conservative MEP, said:
“I am proud that the evidence over the last few days has shown that Scottish Conservative MEPs are hard working and leading the way in openness on expenses. Today we are giving a cast-iron pledge to continue this good work – making our expenses even more transparent and pressing for our high standards to be applied across the European Parliament. A vote for the Conservatives on June 4th is a vote for hard-working, transparent and effective MEPs.”
